Steve Dundas
Though I have always been visually creative, I consider my career as a professional Artist began on October 15th 2018 when I commenced working at Reigate Studios. Prior to that I studied at Reigate College of Art, completing a Foundation course in 2017, and subsequently taking further courses at the Art Academy in London. Earlier in my life I received an MA in semiotics from the University of Wales.
Love in the Plasticene 2, like much of my recent work, is concerned with environmental degradation. I use advertisements, mainly from magazines, in order to challenge the consumerist narrative. By not adding paint to the advert but employing the original printer's ink, I am literally re-forming the image. Stylistically, I like to paint freely using energetic brushwork, which I see as another way of resisting the plasticisation and perfectionism of our society, and also as a reflection of the quantum reality which underlies our world.
Love in the Plasticene 1 is currently on display at the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, where it was selected to hang in the Winter Exhibition.
