Donald Smith

Donald Smith studied at Camberwell and Chelsea Schools of Art in the UK and at University of Ife in Nigeria. He has been exhibiting
nationally and internationally for more than 40 years and has collaborated on many projects with the fashion, music, and hospitality sectors. He was Chairman of Chelsea Arts Club and, as the former Director of Exhibitions at Chelsea College of Arts, he is also well
known for his curatorial collaborations with major cultural figures across art, design and popular culture.

Smith uses oil paint on linen and makes highly coloured abstract paintings, often these are geometric and might be associated with the
urban landscape, however, this geometry has been challenged in recent years by the power of the landscape surrounding him in the Darenth
Valley in Kent and his work has become more organic in form. This area along the River Darent has been associated historically with the
artists Graham Sutherland and before that, Samuel Palmer who dubbed the area “The Valley of Visions”
